WiMAX (News - Alert) technologies provider AirTap Communications has completed a significant expansion of its wireless broadband coverage in the Gulf of Mexico and related coastal areas. The project, which is part of a planned, multi-phase implementation schedule, will cover all of the shelf primary energy sectors in the region.

AirTap Communications has expanded its WiMAX coverage with new broadband assets operating from additional locations both offshore and along the coast.

In a release AirTap President David Heximer said, "We are pleased to announce our expanded coverage areas and network capabilities. AirTap now has complete coverage of the central gulf coastline, encompassing almost 400 miles from Texas to Mississippi. Our high-speed, low-latency broadband coverage range is now in excess of 20,000 square miles of the GoM and its coastal areas."

AirTap made news back in June when it announced that its board of directors had elected David Heximer as president.

According to a release Heximer has more than 20 years of experience designing and building communications networks utilizing fiber and wireless transmission mediums. An accomplished business manager, he has served in executive staff roles as senior director at Stratos (News - Alert) and more recently as vice president of Global Data Systems, Inc.
