Singapore based Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO), a leading service provider to the offshore oil and gas industry, has chosen Station711's smart@sea and Inmarsat's (News - Alert) FleetBroadband as its next-gen communications platform. SPO will deploy the new broadband satcom service on 60 vessels and intends to use it for operations, logistics, navigation and crew welfare services.

Station711 has partnered with service provider SMTS for this purpose and a smart@sea gateway was set up to control the LANs used on the vessel for operations and crew welfare. The three-year agreement comprises a smart@sea communication gateway, SAILOR FB500 terminals, a tailored fleet-wide pricing package from Inmarsat, and ongoing maintenance and support services from SMTS and Station711.

The Station711's smart@sea lets shipping companies bridge the gap between onboard and shore systems and operations. This one-stop platform also provides comprehensive and secure solutions for both commercial company and private crew communications.

Station 711 is an Inmarsat LES and distribution partner, offering the complete range of Inmarsat products, from which users can select the products that best suit their needs and budget. Station711 claimed that it takes the Inmarsat technology further by integrating into its own platform that supports both existing infrastructures and new technology, and offering customized solutions tailored to customers’ needs.

Officials with SPO asserted that along with daily business communications, they are also excited about smart@sea's unique features for onboard crew welfare. By using the dedicated onboard internet cafe, in combination with solutions such as the VoIP scratch cards, crew members can keep in touch with loved ones at home, and enjoy the worldwide web on their off-duty time.

Station711 asserted that offering SPO with end-to-end fleet satellite communications services is based upon the deep understanding of its IT and HR departments' requirements. The company said it is honored that SPO has chosen to place trust in it to deliver reliable communications for their critical operations.
