CLEC Chooses Positron Access Solutions Aktino Products

Datavo, a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC), announced that it is using Positron Access Solution's Aktino (News - Alert) product family to deliver True Broadband integrated data and voice services.

"Embracing Positron's Aktino MIMO on DMT technology, allows us to deploy significantly higher bandwidths above and beyond the limits of traditional ADSL, T1 or other bonded solutions," said Joe Pilcher, president of Datavo. "In addition, using Aktino gives us the unique flexibility to deliver both high bandwidth symmetric and asymmetric Ethernetbusiness services with quality of service. Combining all that functionality into a single platform allows us to offer powerful, yet cost effective solutions to our customers, which in turn gives us a competitive advantage. The long reach symmetric functionality allows us to compete against other carriers and in particular T1 based service providers."

Positron's Aktino product line is a great fit for CLECs. Its superior performance enables it to deliver today's services over fewer copper pairs than other technologies on the market. This translates into quicker and easier turn-ups, and reduced long-term operating and maintenance costs. As demand for higher bandwidth services grows to 10 Mbps or 20 Mbps and beyond, a product like Aktino, which can deliver up to 100 Mbps over copper, is an attractive alternative to fiber. In their initial product release, Datavo will be offering services up to 20 Mbps downstream and up to 10 Mbps upstream.

Datavo serves customers from central offices (COs) throughout Southern California. Datavo's service offerings include a family of affordable voice and broadband data product bundles catering to the needs of small and medium sized businesses. The new product offerings, made possible by the Aktino solution, will be marketed by the company under their "True Broadband" portfolio of services and are a natural extension of their integrated low cost data and voice services, offering higher bandwidths with differentiated data and quality of service.

"Datavo is truly innovative in the way they are able to leverage the full capabilities of the Aktino system, supporting customized Ethernet data and voice services for their small and medium business customers," said Hossam Salib, vice president of marketing for Positron Access. "We are pleased to see that Datavo is utilizing our product to its full capacity and gaining a competitive edge."

Positron's Aktino product line consists of a shelf-based aggregation unit in the CO, line cards as well as customer premise equipment (CPE). The Aktino circuits can deliver up to 50 Mbps symmetric or 100 Mbps asymmetric bandwidth to a customer premise over eight unshielded twisted copper pairs. Positron Access products are compliant with Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert) (MEF) specifications, to fully deliver carrier Ethernet services including differentiated services for the reliable delivery of high quality voice.
