MRV Communications (News - Alert), a provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, announced the launch of OptiSwitch OS940-M that assists service providers and presents them with new revenue opportunities.

The latest addition to MRV's OptiSwitch OS900 portfolio, the OptiSwitch OS940-M provides high service scalability and simplicity for mobile Ethernet backhaul and business Ethernet applications, company officials said.

The OptiSwitch OS940-M is a compact and scalable modular platform that leverages Hybrid Network Interface Device functionality along with field-proven, precise end-to-end service level agreement measurements tools.

“Service providers are looking for multi-functional and cost-effective Ethernet demarcation devices that support multiple deployment scenarios while delivering improvement in network maintenance costs,” said Zeev Draer, vice president, Strategic Marketing for MRV's Optical Communications Systems (News - Alert) (OCS) division, in a statement. “The OptiSwitch OS940-M fits the bill perfectly for these service providers.”

Leveraging the OptiSwitch OS940-M, service providers can benefit as its Hybrid Network Interface Device (NID) functionality simplifies monitoring of Ethernet services. The comprehensive set of multi-layer, hardware-based OAM and measurement tools are expected to ensure the delivery of the service.

Recently, MRV Communications introduced a lineup of hybrid NID capabilities for the OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet access series. The launch is aimed at service providers and cable operators who will have the ability to monitor and manage the same Carrier Ethernet demark device, located at a customer’s site in their partners’ out-of-franchise network.

Hybrid NIDs support the features and functionality of conventional NIDs and provide carrier-grade, Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert)-compliant Ethernet service demarcation along with operations, administration & maintenance (OAM) tools that ensure strict SLA-compliant service offerings while reducing operational expenses.

The multi-service slot functionality in the OptiSwitch OS940-M enables packet and optical combinations via either circuit emulation services or wave division multiplexing.
