Taiwan-based provider of wireless broadband modems Accton Wireless Broadband Corp. has announced that it has launched a new CPE (customer premise equipment) platform powered by a BCS5350 4G-WiMAX chip from Beceem (News - Alert).

AWB will use the CPE platform to launch CPEs from a basic data modem to a high-end CPE with support for multiple Voice and Data connections plus integrated WiFi (News - Alert). The company plans to use the same BCS5350 chip for all CPE platforms which will not only cut down time to market but also trim costs. The CPE platform supports full data throughput with simultaneous support of two VoIP lines and WiFi AP stack, and all required networking, routing and security software.

"AWB is well known for its high-performance WiMAX (News - Alert) modems, and the BCS5350 -- with its Twin Turbo and integrated VoIP support - offers an ideal combination of increased performance with a significantly reduced bill of materials," said Aditya Agrawal, senior director of marketing for Beceem Communications (News - Alert). "Having a single-chip with high performance and low price is just what the WiMAX industry needs as it enters a next phase of market growth."

"Beceem is one of AWB's key strategic partners in the WiMAX CPEs development, and AWB is very happy to have the opportunity to work with Beceem for BC5350 development. The BCS5350 is one of the perfect products to allow us to extend our advanced CPE product lines by simultaneously increasing our high-performance capabilities, while also enabling significant product and development cost reductions," said Ray Lee, President at AWB. "We clearly expect our new CPE products to extend our leading position in the high-end CPE market that we have earned with unique devices based on earlier generations of Beceem WiMAX chips."

Sampling since Q1, the BCS5350 supports simultaneous Data, Voice and WiFi capabilities and the Twin Turbo Uplink innovation.

Beceem Communications has been providing mobile WiMAX semiconductors with proven over-the-air data speeds exceeding 30 Mbps. Beceem's products are WiMAX certified, XOHM qualified and are validated against the WiMAX base stations from all major OEMs. In another article, TMCnet reported Beceem's BCSM250 4G/WiMAX single chip solution has been selected for the new Sierra Wireless (News - Alert) AirCard W801 mobile hotspot.
