Azimuth Systems (News - Alert), Inc., chief provider of wireless channel emulators, broadband wireless test equipment and integrated solutions, has announced that the company will be presenting a series of beamforming seminars to selected companies in Asia, North America and Europe.

These seminars will explain beamforming, how it works, the critical requirements that need to be met for accurate lab-based testing, in addition to providing examples of typical test cases and results.

Beamforming is a key element of the time division duplex “TDD versions of 3GPP LTE (News - Alert) and WiMAX 802.16e specifications.

Futuristic versions of these specifications which include beamforming have been submitted to the International Telecommunication Union “ITU” for approval as 4G IMT-Advanced radio interface standards.

Beamforming is an adaptive antenna technique which is commonly used in TDD transmission for enhancing system performance. Beamforming systems perform channel estimations and then maximizes signal to noise by changing the directionality of the antenna array. A beamformer controls the phase and relative amplitude of the signal at each transmitter, while transmitting, for creating a pattern of constructive and destructive interference. When receiving, antenna sensitivity can be increased for a better signal to noise ratio, especially when receiving signals are weak. Both LTE and WiMAX (News - Alert) standards have specified Beamforming requirements.

George Reed, vice president of marketing and product management at Azimuth Systems said the company is excited to share their beamforming test expertise and are thrilled to present such a timely seminar to companies around the globe as they promote the delivery of TD-LTE and WiMAX systems.

Reed also said that Azimuth's award-winning ACE wireless channel emulators have been successfully utilized in Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output beamforming tests in the past few years and the ACE MX wireless channel emulator can easily and readily support the necessary MIMO configurations, like 4x4 or 8x2 which are required for beamforming testing for TD-LTE and WiMAX.

The Azimuth beamforming seminar series will begin in China during the week of May 17th and will continue in Europe during the week of June 7th. Additional seminars will also be conducted to key LTE and WiMAX ecosystem companies in North America, Japan, Korea and other European countries over the next few months.
