By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor

AT&T, a communications holding company, announced a five-year, $2.6 million contract for wireless services and applications to United Road Services, Inc., a U.S. provider of vehicle logistics.

With nearly 1,100 tractor-trailer trucks, United Road was looking to achieve greater efficiencies in its deliveries of more than 2 million vehicles across the country annually. According to the agreement, AT&T (News - Alert) will provide wireless data service to support United Road Services' proprietary OVISS truck-based hand-held solution to track the resources and performance of United Road's operations.

With the 3G network to help the AT&T-supported application, United Road's fleet can directly connect and view daily business processes. United Road's customers, executives and employees can manage the fleet with higher efficiencies, customer service, fuel savings and compliance reporting, along with other enterprise processes.

"The need to drive greater business momentum, efficiency and results in the U.S. auto industry has never been higher," said Matthew Cartwright, chief information officer, United Road Services, Inc. "With AT&T's solution and wireless network, we're connected to the information we need to best run our business and best serve U.S. auto distributors and consumers."

United Road will also have access to AT&T's mobility billing platform, Enterprise On Demand, allowing United Road to activate service on their own and employing customized data plans that meet the needs of their enterprise.

AT&T’s focus is on connecting people with their world, everywhere they live and work, driving innovation in wireless, entertainment and other communications services, consistently demonstrating a passionate commitment to customer care, and listening to customers and responding to their needs.
