Free Webinar Examined Opportunities and Challenges in Open Broadband Access

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

What would open broadband access mean for you and your company? Iskratel examined that question in a free TMC (News - Alert) webinar on Wednesday, June 2.

The point of this webcast was to introduce the audience the open broadband access and the new opportunities and challenges it presents to all parties involved in the service-delivery chain.

One of the most obvious points is that the business success of network and service providers depends greatly on the customers' satisfaction with the services. With the number of benefits that open broadband access can provide, customer satisfaction is assured.

According to Iskratel: "Open access models give the end customers the freedom to choose between service and service providers…it is no longer provider driven as they were in the past; they become market driven or customer driven. The result of this process [is that it] improves quality of experience and lower prices."

Even with these inherent benefits, there are still several challenges to open broadband access, including regulatory demands; service monitoring; quality of service and quality of experience assurance; end-to-end service provisioning and self-provisioning; demarcation between network and service providers; and efficient troubleshooting in a multi-provider environment.

This webcast examined the reasons for open access and the current state of open access. It also answered the question of how to enable open access in the efficient, economical and future-proof way.
