WiMax Microwave Equipment to Survive Initial Hiccups - Steady Growth Predicted 2011-2014Market research firm, Infonetics Research (News - Alert) released excerpts from its second quarterly Microwave Equipment market share and forecast report. The report tracked revenue, units, and ARPU for TDM microwave equipment, dual Ethernet and TDM microwave equipment and low- and high-capacity Ethernet equipment, each split by backhaul, transport, and access. Richard Webb, directing analyst for WiMAX (News - Alert) microwave, and mobile devices at Infonetics has predicted a year-on-year growth in the microwave market in 2010 through at least 2014. Although it has still not recovered from the throes of recession, and there is some slowdown in the operator capex in some segments, the microwave market is expected to pick up momentum as more operators upgrade their networks to HSPA and LTE (News - Alert). According to the Infonetics report, the market for routers and optical gear did increase marginally in the second quarter, and this was because operators are being selective about where and how they upgrade their networks. Other highlights indicated in the report spoke of Ericsson's move to the top in market share position for worldwide microwave equipment revenue in 2Q10, well ahead of NEC (News - Alert). 80 percent of the microwave equipment purchased in the second quarter was for mobile backhaul network deployments, and the balance was for equipment purchased for transport applications and first-mile access. Companies that were tracked included top ranking networks such as Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) and Siemens. Related research was also conducted on Ethernet mobile backhaul equipment, IP and Ethernet in Mobile Backhaul networks, the shift in operator strategy for mobile backhaul, equipment spending, and Infonetics's new 2011 market research lineup.
