Taiwan-based telecommunications Device maker Gemtek, in conjunction with Santa Clara, Calif.-based Beceem Communications, has announced the launch of Gemtek's new CPE and USB WiMAX (News - Alert) modem product line powered by Beceem's BCSx350 4G-WiMAX chip.

The new modems have been tailored to enhance device performance in the uplink, which in turn ensures the coverage of an operator's network. Powered by Beceem's (News - Alert) unique "Twin Turbo," the advanced uplink is based on a patented dual transmit uplink technology that provides up to 6dB of performance gain compared to traditional Wave 2 uplink technology. The BCSx350 also supports more than 40Mbps peak downlink throughput, which is 10Mbps faster than what existing 4G-WiMAX devices offer.

"Our Twin Turbo solution offers significant uplink performance improvements over traditional WiMAX modems. Operators are very sensitive to the uplink capabilities of the devices in their network, since the uplink has direct impact on network spending and quality," said James Chen, senior director of marketing for Beceem Communications (News - Alert). "The up to 6dB of extra gain provided by the Twin Turbo will make Gemtek's new CPE and USB modems the clear performance Benchmark in the industry."

The BCSx350 has been sampling since Q1. It comes in two models: the BCSM350 for mobile/embedded devices and BCS5350 for high-performance, low-cost CPE (customer premise equipment) that simultaneously support Data, Voice and WiFi (News - Alert) on a single chip.

Beceem Communications has been providing mobile WiMAX semiconductors with proven over-the-air data speeds exceeding 30 Mbps. Beceem's products are WiMAX certified, XOHM qualified and are validated against the WiMAX base stations from all major OEMs. In another article, TMCnet reported that Taiwan based provider of Wireless Broadband Modems Accton Wireless Broadband Corp (News - Alert). has announced that it has launched a new CPE (customer premise equipment) platform powered by a BCS5350 4G-WiMAX chip from Beceem.
