CalAmp Unveils 4G Wireless Broadband Networking Platforms for Mobile and Fixed Data Applications

CalAmp Corp. a provider of wireless communications solutions announced the introduction of its Sentry 2500 and Vanguard-LTE, two next generation wireless broadband networking platforms for mobile and fixed data applications.

The announcement was made at the International Wireless Communications Expo. It was revealed that these new products were designed to support CalAmp customers with 4G solutions in public safety mobile data, smart grid communications, high speed SCADA/Telemetry, rail automation, and other mission critical data applications.

The CalAmp’s Sentry 2500, expected to be available later this year provides simultaneous high-speed 4G WiMax connectivity with 3G fallback. It is based on IEEE 802.16e-2005 and 3GPP TS 36.101 standards. The Sentry also features extensive routing capabilities besides featuring an easy-to-use interface and remote management capability.

It also has a built-in GPS, two Ethernet ports and an optional 802.11 b/g interface with simultaneous access point and client operation which allows both WAN and LAN connectivity. It is suitable for public or private networks and it also serves as a ruggedized mobile Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) with integrated WiMAX, EVDO, 1xRTT, GPS and Wi-Fi. Rule-based switching for 4G/3G/WiFi ensures continuous network connectivity, explained company sources.

The Vanguard-LTE also to be available later this year offers a single, flexible platform to serve both mobile and fixed wireless communications needs. This broadband router offers wireless data connectivity for up to two LAN devices and one serial device over public and private LTE networks at 4G speeds.

Rick Nozel, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing for CalAmp's wireless networks business said in a release, “Sentry 2500 and Vanguard-LTE represent our next generation cellular technology platforms for rugged, feature-rich and secure broadband wireless communications.”

“These versatile platforms meet the growing need for near real time network access with industrial-class reliability and security, and are ideally suited for a number of automation applications in smart grid, oil and gas, rail and public Safety. CalAmp continues to set the industry standard in performance and value for a wide range of fixed and mobile data solutions,” Nozel added.

CalAmp introduced its new Galaxy 900 point-to-point digital access radio system in August 2009, reported MobilityTechzone. The Galaxy 900 provides wireless transmission of voice and broadband data traffic over long distances for backhaul applications in the public safety, industrial and utility markets.
