Cincinnati Bell Launches Its 4G Network

The new race in the wireless market is literally a race: customers are continually on the hunt for faster surfing, faster downloads and speeds capable of allowing bandwidth-hogging applications like video streaming. For many providers – even regional ones – the next step is 4G.

Ohio-based “Baby Bell” Cincinnati Bell today announced the formal launch of its 4G wireless network. The company is claiming that its new network will be able to reach speeds “twice as fast” and those offered by major U.S. wireless companies, and will be three times faster than the company's existing 3G network.

“Every day the people of Greater Cincinnati use wireless phones to share news with friends and family and stream music and video,” said Mike Vanderwoude, VP and general manager of wireless for Cincinnati Bell. “With our new 4G wireless network, they can do all that and more at speeds that are faster than ever.”

Cincinnati Bell's 4G wireless network will cover Greater Cincinnati. The company has said that it has made agreements with many national wireless companies so its customers will be able to access 4G networks outside of Cincinnati.

To mark the launch of its newest high-speed asset, Cincinnati Bell is introducing a new phone to complement it. The Android 2.2-based Huawei Ascend X 4G has a 4.1-inch touchscreen display, a five-megapixel front- and back-facing camera and a one-gigahertz processor. The phone will be dangled in front of customers in limited availability, but quick customers can take advantage of Cincinnati Bell's “buy-one-get-one-free” offer for $99 after mail-in rebate and with a two-year equipment agreement and smartphone data plan. Other 4G phones are expected to follow soon.

“With our 3G and 4G networks and strong Android, smartphone and tablet product lines, we can provide our customers with access to the cutting-edge wireless technology they crave,” said Vanderwoude.
