CEVA Joins the Wi-Fi Alliance

Today, CEVA, the leading provider of silicon intellectual property platform solutions and DSP cores for mobile handsets and portable consumer electronics, announced that it has joined the Wi-Fi Alliance to further advocate for a software based Wi-Fi strategy.

More than one billion devices were shipped powered by CEVA's IP including devices from Nokia, Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, Sony Huawei and ZTE. More than 40 percent of the handsets shipped worldwide are powered by a CEVA DSP core. CEVA's portfolio includes comprehensive technologies for cellular broadband, multimedia, image signal processing, voice over packet, Bluetooth, serial attached and Serial ATA. CEVA's XC4000 is a fully programmable low-power DSP architecture framework that supports the most demanding communications standards while performing a wide spectrum of performance capabilities while consuming 50 percent less power.

The Wi-Fi Alliance is thrilled to welcome such a powerful member to join in advocating for a software Wi-Fi. The CEVA-XC4000 represents exactly the kind of high-performance efficiency that the Wi-Fi Alliance hopes to promote.

"The advent of the next generation of Wi-Fi standards including 802.11ac poses new challenges for the development of multi-standard, high performance Wi-Fi enabled SoCs," said Eran Briman, vice president of marketing at CEVA. "The continuous evolvement of these standards together with greater processing requirements dictates a new silicon design approach that will enable semiconductor companies to reduce development time, minimize risk and also extend products' life-cycle. CEVA believes that a software-based Wi-Fi approach based on the CEVA-XC4000 DSP architecture framework is the optimal way to address both the performance and flexibility issues with current hardwired designs and we look forward to sharing our expertise in this area with the Wi-Fi Alliance and its members."
