Galaxy Note 2 Details Leaked, Speculation on Product Release Shared

Mobile World Congress is a great destination to launch new tech products and build momentum for a later release. This approach can backfire, though, if the conversation lags.

Leaked information, intentional or not, can start the rumor mill running and build anticipation. For Samsung, the leak regarding its Galaxy Note 2 10.1 brings attention back to its anticipated release.

According to this TechnoBloom report, Samsung first demonstrated the Galaxy Note 2 10.1 in February at the 2012 Mobile World Congress. The company has been silent about the product since the event, with industry insiders assuming this has something to do with the focus placed on the development and release of the Galaxy S III flagship smartphone.

This focus appeared to pay off as the Galaxy S III sold 10 million units in its first two months on the market. Now, the company has time to invest in other innovations, most specifically the Galaxy Note 2.

Others speculate the delay may have more to do with legal implications for Samsung. Card Ford, a partner at Crossfire, told TMC that, “This delay may have something to do with the embargo on Samsung.” The company isn’t talking, but instead enjoying the mounting anticipation.

Whether or not the product is ready for final release is being discussed on the BravePost website. This Korean site already posted its critic of the Galaxy Note 2, which the company reportedly put through an unboxing.

A number of interesting product updates were revealed in this process. In fact, according to the site, the product has received a number of significant updates since its unveiling in February.

For one thing, the RAM available in the Galaxy Note 2 has been doubled from 1 GB to 2 GB. An updated quad core is also in the design, as well as a rear camera that has been upgraded to an 8 megapixel unit. The S Pen also now has a slot – a feature that was missing from the earlier product.

To date, there is still no word on when to expect the Galaxy 2 10.1 to debut, although rumors have surfaced that it will launch at a planned event on August 15. A separate Galaxy-themed event has also been mentioned, but isn’t expected to surface for several months.

The important point here is that a pre-production unit of the tablet does exist, suggesting that Samsung won’t wait any longer to debut the product. The real question will be whether or not the updates are enough to generate the right buzz to make it a formidable competitor in the market.

“The upgrades seem fine,” according to Ford, “but as a Galaxy Note user, I will say that pen software is desperately needed to take advantage of the pen.” A suggestion that Samsung has a little more work to do? We’ll wait for the release to find out.
