Kids Place App Makes Securing Android-based Devices Easy for Parents

There is nothing more disconcerting than grabbing your Android device, only to find out apps have been moved around – or worse – deleted, various and sundry e-mails have been replied to by tiny hands, and that a few apps have been downloaded without your knowledge. While mobile devices can be great tools for little ones, unsupervised use and purchases aren’t so great.

Kiddoware designed an app called Kids Place that’s meant to address these exact issues – to keep those tiny hands from doing the unwanted on your phone or tablet. Kids Place features a parental control/child lock, allowing parents to designate which apps are okay for kids to use with a customized home screen just for them. It’s ultimately child-proofing for your device.

Parents can also disable or allow calls and texts as necessary.

Apps like the one from Kiddoware come in handy, particularly when it comes to the dangers of in-app purchases.

Last year, Apple was under scrutiny for their in-app purchases and how they were being marketed.

Parents who allowed their children to use their iOS devices were surprised to find that their credit cards had amassed large sums of money due to “accidental” purchases, such as tokens and other items used for game play.

Apps would normally require a password before completing an in-app purchase, but iOS previously provided a 15-minute window after users entered their password, which subsequently allowed any in-app purchases within the time frame to complete without needing the password again.

At the time, the government was “looking at Apple's subscription service terms for potential antitrust issues but said there is no formal investigation. Speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly, the official said that the government routinely tracks new commercial initiatives influencing markets,” reported the Washington Post.
