Corning MobileAccess Top DAS Equipment Vendor Matrix from ABI

ABI Research recently released its latest DAS (Distributed Antenna System) equipment vendor matrix, published as part of a Competitive Assessment report of the in-building wireless coverage market, in which DAS setups are most widely deployed. Corning MobileAccess ranked number one in this area by the report.

In second and third were Commscope and TE Connectivity, respectively. The vendor matrix evaluates companies on the two main axes of innovation and implementation. On the innovation scale only, Corning MobileAccess, Zinwave and Alvarion were named top competitors, while the top three companies in terms of implementation were Commscope, Corning MobileAccess, and TE Connectivity.

“While traditional incumbents like Commscope and TE Connectivity still dominate the DAS market due to their size and footprint, it is emerging vendors like Corning MobileAccess who are grabbing market share on back of their technology innovation in areas like single cable MIMO support, DAS optimization, and their unique CAT5 based DAS solution for small enterprises,” said Aditya Kaul, practice director for mobile networks at ABI, in a statement.

“The next generation of vendors like Zinwave, Alvarion, SOLiD Technologies, and Optiway are the ones to watch out for as they each bring unique DAS innovations that push the limits on cost, flexibility, and scalability, especially when it comes to supporting multiple technologies and multiple operators on fewer infrastructure elements,” Kaul added.

According to Kaul, the DAS market has seen major consolidation over the last few years and that as new, innovative vendors pop up, it's likely that larger vendors like Ericsson and Huawei will start making acquisitions.

Corning MobileAccess certainly deserves a spot near the top of the implementation scale, as the company has been making many headlines lately as it sets up wireless networks throughout the U.S. In July, for example, the company expanded the wireless capabilities of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor hospital, using the Corning MobileAccess2000 DAS.

Back in May, the company's DAS was implemented in the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, bringing voice and data access to the International CTIA WIRELESS 2012 conference.
