Good Technology Looks to Acquire Copiun for Secure SharePoint Access, File Sharing and Data Syncing

Good Technology is a company that has been around since the dawn of the mobile age (let's call it 2002 or so) and a company that once used to compete head to head with Research in Motion in the mobile e-mail space. Since then Good has evolved and is now focused on delivering secure enterprise mobility solutions (though e-mail across multiple mobile OS platforms is still central to its game), and has steadily built a small and growing business around these platform capabilities.

One goal that also drives Good is to deliver enhanced and secure enterprise collaboration, and along this line the company announced today that it has reached an agreement to acquire Copiun, a privately-held vendor focused on secure mobile collaboration. Copiun allows mobile users to directly and securely access file shares, Microsoft SharePoint or other document stores from anywhere without a VPN connection or firewall reconfiguration.

Copiun’s TrustedShare platform is used by more than 200 enterprise customers globally, which should open doors for Good to sell its own suite of products. The acquisition builds out Good’s own collaboration solution with Copiun’s secure mobile file sharing and data syncing technology, and allows business workers to easily access, sync and share enterprise information from anywhere, at any time, using their mobile phone or tablet. Since neither users nor IT need worry about setting up VPN connections, the platform ultimately delivers far more mobile convenience for users, and makes IT's BYOD life just a little bit easier to manage.

TrustedShare helps maximize the value of what have emerged as significant investments in Microsoft SharePoint by enterprises, as well as file server deployments, while making employees more productive and protecting the enterprise against the very real and mounting data security risks in today’s increasingly mobile world. TrustedShare ensures that IT retains complete document lifecycle control. Enterprises can more easily deliver instant mobile worker productivity with no compromises to their corporate data.

Copiun's team members will become full-time employees of Good Technology and Copiun's headquarters in Marlborough, MA will become a Good Technology office. Copiun co-founder and CEO, Puneesh Chaudhry, will join Good Technology’s leadership team, overseeing the TrustedShare product line.

Copiun was founded in late 2008 and funded by Novak Biddle Venture Partners and RRE Ventures. The transaction is expected to close in September 2012 and is subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
