If the leaks are to be believed, the BlackBerry LS1 London is going to give Research In Motion (RIM) the potential to rebound on market share. Its sleek look and new touch features will probably attract customers who were thinking about getting Android or iOS phones. But this shot at getting back to being relevant might backfire on RIM.
Until now, RIM's been having some trouble, and even the release of a tablet called the PlayBook didn't really help them out much. Their market share has dropped significantly and the PlayBook has been criticized for being "good, but late ." In other words, the company joined the tablet game a little too slowly and ended up hauled to the backlog of all the other tablets that never made a significant dent.
This is the first time we really see the London, which RIM has been working on for over a year. In the video of the leak, we only get to see a blurry rendition of a battery replacement demonstration. No features have been demonstrated other than this slightly run-of-the-mill presentation, so we have no way of knowing whether the phone is a game changer or just simply an attempt for RIM to gain relevance, like the PlayBook was.

Earlier leaks speculate that the phone might have a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage media, and an 8-MP camera. If this is true, we're looking at a phone that can seriously sell if the price is right. Unfortunately for RIM, it will have to compete with all the other contenders that have already won the hearts of the public. It might also be worth noting that their market share until now has been steadily declining to a final number of 6 percent, according to a generous 2012 estimate.
We can only wait for more details about the BlackBerry London phone (and probably some other nifty new devices of theirs) at the RIM Jam Americas conference, to take place between September 25-27 at San Jose, California.
