Telstra Global Partners with Tekelec for New LTE Services across APAC Region

Global telecommunications provider Telstra Global has announced a partnership with mobile broadband solutions provider Tekelec to provide LTE roaming services to its customers across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

Telstra will now be using Tekelec’s market leading Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) which enables safe and secure exchange of authentication, authorization, charging, billing and network policies that utilize the diameter protocol.

Tekelec’s DSR will provide the diameter signaling hub for Telstra Global’s Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX) Service. Telstra users will now be able to maintain and use LTE services while visiting international locations in the APAC region.

Telstra Global’s IPX Service provides a platform that allows operators to launch new mobile services and applications which are beneficial and advantageous for capabilities such as video streaming and mobile gaming with excellent end user experience.

The IPX service is offered over Telstra Global’s managed IP MPLS core network, which increases and maximizes the traffic on mobile and legacy platforms. This enables the telecom provider to team up with other mobile operators offering LTE services.

Telstra Global’s Global Head of Carrier Services Tejaswini Tilak said that operators are exploring and analyzing how to maximize and increase the benefits that LTE networks offer its consumers, such as offering international roaming.

"Tekelec is a leader in this space, with the scalability, security and vision for us to support the region's LTE requirements and capitalize on increased international mobility and exploding mobile data consumption," Tilak further added.

In related news, market research and consulting firm Parks Research came out with a report that stated by the end of 2012, a number as high as 53 percent of global 4G/LTE users will be located within the Asia-Pacific region. Another industry analyst company, Exact Ventures also published a report that places Tekelec in the lead in the diameter routing market with a market share between 75 to 85 percent and 19 confirmed customers across 10 countries, including T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless amongst many others.
