Dovado Announces Category 4 USB Modem Boasting 4G/LTE Speeds

Dovado has long been one of the top companies in the world when it comes to supplying mobile broadband routers and other software to 3G and 4G/LTE operators and distributors. Earlier this week, the company officially rolled out support for Category 4G/LTE service in its line of wireless routers.

The company believes this move forward is an actual evolution in the mobile broadband market as it will allow its customers to surf the Web, upload and download at speeds of 150Mbps on the downlink and 50Mbps on the uplink.

The company’s broadband routers allow these kinds of speeds to be easily shared among multiple users either using Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet connections.

The best news for existing Dovado router users is that they can simply use a firmware update for their USB routers to take advantage of the new 4G/LTE speeds.

The Dovado Category 4 (150 Mbps) router is the first in the world and it has already launched in Asia, but it will soon be available in other parts of the world. Dovado believes this router will get an even bigger audience as more companies move off of the category 3 routers that have a top speed of 100 Mbps.

"With LTE/4G in the early stages of its lifespan and vendors gradually working towards the holy grail of gigabit speeds, most mobile broadband subscribers today continue to use 3G,” said Mathias Johansson, CTO at Dovado. “As such, it is truly impressive to see a wireless router capable of delivering speeds that not only match, but actually surpass most fiber installations. As more and more 4G/LTE networks are lined up to be rolled out in the coming year, I fully expect Dovado routers to help many operators deliver the quintessential mobile broadband experience."
