Today, Opera Software forged a new partnership with TIM, the second largest mobile operator in Brazil. Together, the two companies have launched the TIM App Shop, a vast collection of mobile applications offered exclusively to TIM subscribers.
The TIM App Shop is powered by the Opera Mobile Store and now comes pre-loaded on all mobile devices sold by TIM. Of course, existing TIM subscribers also have access to the store. For the mobile operators, 70 million or so subscribers, the TIM App Shop is an extremely useful resource as many Brazilians solely rely on mobile Internet access.
At launch, the app store offers somewhere over 55,000 apps, both free and paid, on a number of devices and platforms, including Android, Java, Symbian, BlackBerry and iOS. The types of apps available include all the traditional mainstays, such as social media, news, weather, games and sports, offered in both Portuguese and English.
Opera and TIM have collaborated closely on the TIM App Shop to create a storefront experience that meets the needs and expectations of its users.
“Innovation is in the DNA of TIM and the re-launch of our app store, with more features and a greater variety of content, reaffirms our commitment to providing services and products that bring a unique user experience to consumers. Our goal with the new TIM App Shop, powered by Opera Software, is to increase access to different applications and further enhance the use of mobile devices by our customers,” said Fabio Cristilli, responsible for the Internet segment, Handsets and VAS in TIM Brazil.
The release of the TIM App Shop extends an earlier partnership between TIM and Opera first established back in 2010, which has seen TIM offer the Opera Mini browser, co-branded as Navegador TIM, on its mobile devices.
Earlier in November, Opera launched the final version of Opera 12.10 for desktop, which offers better extensions through deeper integration.
