First Joint Plugfest for Wi-Fi Alliance and WiGig Alliance Concludes

Wireless Gigabit Alliance, a renowned provider of a “global wireless ecosystem” with high-performance, interoperable devices to connect people, recently completed its multi-gigabit WiGig technology testing at its first Plugfest last week.

A Memorandum of Understanding for unifying WiGig Alliance with Wi-Fi Alliance was also signed in early January 2013, followed by the first Plugfest for the recently concluded product testing. Wireless Gigabit Alliance also announced it is planning to launch the certification of WiGig-enabled products within 12 months, once the testing has been successfully executed.

The Plugfest program is the third in the history of WiGig Alliance, and welcomed members from both companies. The program helped the firm in progressing with interoperability, and in developing certification for WiGig-enabled products.

It was conducted at the international testing center, TUV Rheinland, in San Jose.

At the Plugfest, members from Wi-Fi Alliance and WiGig tested their individual products to develop the facilities for interoperability within the scope of the global wireless ecosystem, and deliver the end users with highly compatible and reliable devices.

According to a report by ABI Research, the shipment of 60GHz-enabled wireless devices will exceed the whopping one billion units per annum by the year 2017. The WiGig and Wi-Fi Alliance Plugfest and certification program are the core foundation for reaching that target, reports a senior analyst at ABI research.

Talking about the Plugfest program, held at TUV Rheinland last week, Sarbjit Shelopal, director of TUV Rheinland, said it was an enriching experience working with the members of WiGig to successfully achieve the milestone to launch WiGig-enabled 60GHz technology into the market. With rich experience and expertise in areas like consumer electronics, product certification, and knowledge and training services, the company sees huge potential in the new technology, scheduled to be launched within the next 12 months.

Dr. Ali Sadri, president and chairman at WiGig Alliance, stated that the company is continuing with its Plugfest programs, an integral part of their ongoing process toward launching the certification for their products within 12 months.

With every Plugfest program, the company is moving closer to the way of achieving a new, fully commercialized standard for their product certification. This advanced technology will enable the development of new applications and an enriching user experience, which is already emerging as a mainstream reality.

With the availability of the certification, the company expects to witness an explosion in the demand for WiGig products to be launched in the market.

Wireless Gigabit Alliance is an iconic provider of a “global wireless ecosystem” with high-performance, interoperable, easy-to-use devices to connect people in such a quickly evolving digital world.
