Johnson Controls Selects Motorola Solutions' RhoMobile Suite to Support Mobility Strategy

Motorola Solutions is helping Johnson Controls, a global provider of solutions that increase efficiency in buildings, to create a flexible mobile work environment, while making cross-platform application development easier with its award-winning RhoMobile suite. The RhoMobile Suite is an HTML5 cross-platform development framework that offers enterprise-class features with a consumer-style user experience.

"Johnson Controls is using RhoMobile as a differentiator to lead in the marketplace," said Jim Welch, senior vice president of sales in the Americas for Motorola Solutions, in a statement. "What separates the RhoMobile Suite from other application software is our support for complex business logic, our application integration story and the benefits the RhoConnect server delivers to the enterprise from an application architect’s perspective."

RhoMobile provides the freedom to choose which device would be best for each job, even allowing employees to bring their own, since one application version runs on many operating systems and device types. Furthermore, with RhoConnect and RhoElements, both of which are part of the RhoMobile Suite, Johnson Controls can enable its mobile workers to use its mobile applications.

RhoConnect connects smartphones with a company's enterprise data systems, allowing application data to be synchronized over a Wi-Fi or cellular connection for offline use. Meanwhile, RhoElements provides a set of APIs that allow for easy incorporation of any function present on any mobile device into a company's applications.

As such, even as new OS versions are released or become relevant for its purposes, Johnson Controls can quickly add support without the need to change its underlying business logic.

Earlier this year, Motorola Solutions estimated that its growth in terms of government business will be moderate in 2013, with slow growth in the single digits.

In December, the company was named 2012 North America City Surveillance Partner of the Year by Axis Communications, particularly due to Motorola Solutions' work in Chicago aiding law enforcement with enhance portable solutions.
