RDA Microelectronics Achieves Volume Pricing for GPS LNA

RDA Microelectronics, a fabless semiconductor manufacturing firm, has announced that it has begun volume shipments of the RDALN16 GPS LNA for Samsung handsets in Europe and emerging markets.

“We are very pleased to reach volume shipments for Samsung's 3G handsets and further advance our relationship,” said Vincent Tai, RDA chairman and CEO. “Through this partnership, we are able to further penetrate the 3G markets in emerging countries, while gaining access to developed markets in Europe. This win validates RDA's world-class technical capabilities and competitive strengths in producing high quality, low cost designs. We remain focused on expanding our market share penetration of the 2G and 3G markets through new product introductions and further developing relationships with global Tier-1 customers, such as Samsung.”

The chip is a high-gain, low-noise amplifier intended for GPS, Galileo and GLONASS applications in 2G and 3G handsets. In addition to Europe, the chip is targeted toward emerging markets such as South America.

It’s far from the only device RDA is shipping. The company has also achieved volume pricing of the RDA6220E EDGE transceiver for Samsung’s Galaxy S III (S3) phones sold in South Korea. The transceiver is a multiband Front End Module (FEM) for mobile handsets and wireless data modems.

“We are very pleased to have been selected by Samsung Electronics as a supplier for its feature-rich Galaxy S3 smartphone,” Tai said in a statement in February. “The LTE version of the phone, which contains RDA's transceiver, has been selling in the Korean domestic market since 2012. We look forward to further ramping production of our 6220E transceiver as the Galaxy S3 continues to gain share in the Korean market in 2013."

Tai will also participate in Credit Suisse’s annual Asian Investment Conference at the Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong, March 18-19.
