Viber Updates for Windows Phone 8

Viber for Windows Phone 8 had been dreadfully out of date. Fortunately, that was written in past-tense, because a new update has arrived, giving the app a complete redesign and new features, bringing free calling and HD audio to the devices.

Viber is an app for Windows Phone, Android, iPhone and other smartphone devices that allows users to send text messages and photos or make calls for free. It provides a VoIP experience from those devices, allowing for conversations with up to 40 participants. Should any of a user’s friends already have Viber, it syncs with the user’s contact list to locate and add them.

Up until recently, the Windows Phone version was lacking the audio calling features that the app offered other devices. That, however, is no longer an issue.

Not only will this update provide Windows Phone 8 with much-needed calling and HD audio features, but there are a few new features included as well. The design itself has been improved, as has the all-around performance of the app itself. Users can pin conversations to the start screen, and receive lockscreen notifications. With these updates, Windows Phone users will no longer feel left out of the Viber loop, as they can now do anything that other devices can.

This is a useful app for affordable VoIP communication, providing plenty of useful features and high-definition sound. The best part is, it’s entirely free to download and devoid of advertisements, although some carrier fees may apply depending on one’s data plan. Before now, the Windows Phone version had been severely lacking compared to the versions for other devices, but thanks to this update, Windows Phone 8 users can send all the calls, pictures and text messages as anyone else.
