Synaptics In-Cell Touch Technology Makes Big in Premium Smartphone Market

Synaptics, Inc., a company that designs and creates human interface solutions, just announced that its In-Cell mobile platform is successfully tapping into smartphones, starting with the launch of Huawei’s Ascend P2 into the market using ClearPad 3250. The Synaptics ClearPad 3250 In-Cell platform is currently the lone pioneer of single-chip touch interfaces, allowing for touch integration to happen right on the liquid crystal panel. The implications of this could lead to smartphone developers creating devices that are thinner, lightweight, brighter and more responsive.

The smell of success hits the Huawei Ascend P2 as it has been called the world’s fastest 4G LTE smartphone. It is the first smartphone that uses Synaptics’ ClearPad 3250 technology. The Ascend P2 has a 4.7-inch 720p display, a quad-core processor and the ability to connect to virtually any 4G LTE network. Synaptics’ new display technology can allow mobile users to swipe through their phones and play Angry Birds in a new way: with their gloves on. Thanks to this technology, smartphone frostbite will hopefully be a thing of the past.

But that’s not the only “wow” factor about the platform. The ClearPad 3250 interface has a much faster clock speed, sitting at a whopping 120 Hz, compared to the norm of 60 Hz. What the Ascend P2 doesn’t have in resolution it makes up for in high responsiveness thanks to this new tech.

Kevin Barber, SVP and general manager at the Smart Display division of Synaptics, said, “Our second-generation In-Cell technology is a differentiating factor for OEMs that enables them to deliver the sleek and low-power devices consumers want and expect today. High-end devices like the Huawei Ascent P2 only validate that ClearPad is the best solution on the market. We continue to remain laser focused on delivering leading technologies to our ecosystem of partners.”
