Tekelec Enhances Solution

Tekelec, an international provider of mobile broadband solutions, significantly enhanced its Mobile Policy Gateway (MPG) offering. MPG is highlighted as increasing revenues, decreasing costs and improving customer service by allowing users to extend rules from the core network to mobile devices, tablets and machines.

“For operators to become digital lifestyle providers, they will need to mix and match service bundles and pricing models while managing network resources in new and creative ways,” Houck Reed, vice president of Product Management and Marketing at Tekelec, said in a statement. “Practically, this means operators and subscribers will need more intelligent controls over applications and devices.”

MPG’s first eight use cases were developed by Tekelec to improve subscribers’ interactions with their devices as well as to enable operators to more intelligently manage network resources, applications and devices. They will help operators create or improve digital lifestyle services, such as M2M and mobile payment offerings, and help improve application firewalling and traffic management as well.

“The goal,” added Reed, “is to empower subscribers to better control their experience, allow operators to manage finite resources and welcome advertisers to better communicate with subscribers.”

The use sources will also address subscribers’ most common concerns, like preserving battery life with polices that account for battery age and app usage patterns, or enhancing service continuity by steering application traffic to the appropriate networks.

Headquartered in North Carolina, Tekelec’s mobile broadband solutions enable service providers to manage and monetize mobile data in LTE, IMS and 3G networks. More than 300 service providers currently use Tekelec’s market leading solutions to deliver cloud and M2M capabilities and even personalize services according to the individual needs of both consumers and enterprises.
