Secure Enterprise Instant Messaging is Now Available on BlackBerry 10

Frank Cotter, vice president of mobile computing at BlackBerry once said, “To be competitive in today’s fast-paced marketplace you need to enable your workers with tools that let them collaborate in real time. BlackBerry Enterprise IM 3.0 mobilizes enterprise IM communications in a secure, manageable way through BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 version 10.1, while making it easy and convenient for end users to collaborate while on the go.”

On Tuesday, May 14, BlackBerry announced the availability of BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 version 10.1. BlackBerry is also updating its Enterprise Instant Messaging (Enterprise IM) to version 3.0.

This is a free upgrade to BlackBerry’s enterprise instant messaging solution. The new version will enable customers with BlackBerry 10 smartphones to keep in touch through Microsoft Lync, Microsoft Communication Server or IBM Lotus Sametime securely.

Enterprise IM 3.0 will support Microsoft Lync 2010 and 2013, Microsoft Communication Server 2007 R2, and IBM Lotus Sametime 8.5 and 8.5.2

According to a BlackBerry press release, Enterprise IM 3.0 optimizes communications and collaboration. This will allow enterprise customers to be more productive while they are on the go (mobile). The client app supports presence, real-time one-to-one and multi-party instant messaging. Users will also have the ability to update their profile and change their status.

They can also instantly switch from a text chat to a voice call. For the sake of convenience, all of the messages are integrated within the BlackBerry Hub. This solution supports the separation of enterprise IMs from personal apps and content with the help of BlackBerry Balance.

“Mobility and real-time demands have dramatically changed how workers communicate and have pushed the adoption of a variety and often disparate collaboration mechanisms,” said Kevin Burden, director of mobility for Strategy Analytics. “Today’s mobile worker requires a flexible solution that gives them access to various systems, allowing them to be more timely and responsive to their co-workers, which is the principal of BlackBerry Enterprise IM.”

BlackBerry is reaffirming its commitment to security. It is also taking things a step further by incorporating the functionality of BlackBerry Hub and Balance into the equation. This combines security with the convenience of being easy to use, easy to maintain and a useful tool in the workplace.
