Vasona Networks Adds to Sales and Marketing Team

Mobile network capacity and resource management platform provider Vasona Networks recently expanded its executive team in the areas of sales and marketing in an attempt to expand and enhance the company's offerings.

Chuck Wieland and John Reister will be responsible for expanding market access to Vasona's SmartAIR1000 edge application controller and its product capabilities.

The SmartAIR1000 application, launched earlier this year, enables mobile operators to reduce cell congestion and improve subscriber experiences. Operators can allocate bandwidth to applications depending on real-time usage and its nature and media type, thus allowing resources to be used more effectively.

Wieland, former vice president of sales and general manager of North America at self-optimizing network software provider Intucell, and Reister, former vice president of product strategy for communications technology company Arris, were both chosen for their past experiences in related fields.

In addition to working for Intucell, which was acquired by Cisco Systems, Wieland was in charge of managing end-to-end network infrastructure, mobility and applications sales to AT&T for Cisco through another one of its acquisitions Starent Networks. Reister also held other positions besides that of Arris. He previously was the vice president of advanced technology and chief architect of Arris' acquisition BigBand Networks, as well as the chief technology officer of DSL platform vendor Copper Mountain Networks.

"As the SmartAIR1000 comes to market, Vasona Networks is in a period of rapid growth, working with mobile operators to overcome the cell congestion challenges that arise with activity on their networks continuing to scale rapidly," Biren Sood, CEO of Vasona Networks, said in a statement. "Chuck and John bring mature leadership capabilities, extensive industry relationships, and a commitment they share with our full team and customers to economically achieve the best possible application experiences for mobile subscribers."

The hiring of Wieland and Reister comes just months after Vasona Networks obtained $12 million during a Series B financing round, making the total funds raised by the company amount to $22 million.
