Apple's Big Day is Upon Us

If you have any Apple product, you probably bought it with a touch of trepidation – it works great, and you’re happy with it, but in a few months maybe the gadget won’t even be relevant in the face of brand-new Apple innovations. But at this point, for tech lovers and the modern smartphone owner, the newest innovation is arriving sooner than we think: Sept. 10, the date that sources have said will be Apple’s next release of its new iPhone and software updates.

The new iPhone follows on the heels of the iPhone 5 by barely a year, and there has been talk of an updated camera, processor enhancements and even a possible fingerprint sensor (seeing as Apple acquired Authentec last year). Additionally, any new device will be running the much-discussed iOS 7 software, to be released around the same time as the new iPhone. The timeline sticks to what has become something of a pattern for Apple: debut new software at a June conference, test it for a few months, then release it a few weeks ahead of the newest phone.

Old iPhones have tended to be offered at hundreds of dollars off as new models are released, but speculation abounds that a brand-new lower-cost iPhone will be released alongside the newest iPhone update at the event.

Apple has continued to make significant money off of iPhone sales, but otherwise its market share has dipped of late, in comparison to lower-priced Androids and in the face of products by rival company Samsung. What’s more, consumers and investors have recently been pushing Apple to innovate more rapidly, and talk of smart watches and TVs have been swirling around, although there is no indication either will be announced at the Sept. 10 event.

So circle the date on your calendar and enjoy that iPhone while you have it – you may soon be feeling that tug to trade it in for the next big thing.
