Motorola Solutions' LEX 700 Offers Public Safety Personnel LTE Access

With most consumers focused on the latest smartphones, it’s likely that few are aware of Motorola Solutions, the half of Motorola focused on enterprise mobility, public safety and telecommunications equipment. Despite not being known for smartphones — like the Google-owned, consumer-focused Motorola Mobility — Motorola Solutions does still release these devices, just aimed at different markets.

For example, the company recently introduced a purpose-built smartphone meant for Public Safety LTE broadband, dubbed the LEX 700 Mission Critical Handheld. Running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, this device allows public safety professionals to meet mission-critical broadband communications needs for fighting fires, catching criminals and helping patients.

Motorola Solutions first introduced the ability to access a Band Class 14 Public Safety LTE network back in 2011 with the VML700 LTE Vehicle Modem and the UM1000 LTE USB Modem. Now, the company is making this connectivity even more mobile.

Indeed, the multiband, multimode LEX 700 helps keep public safety professionals connected to their command center, peers and mission-critical content while on the go. The Android platform, meanwhile, provides a smooth, quick interface, as well as access to additional functionality and applications. This, coupled with the device’s compact, rugged construction, ensures reliable access to data in any environment.

“We are excited about the access to powerful applications that are enabled by Android and the expanded voice capabilities that will enhance first responder communications,” said Bob Schassler, senior vice president of Government Solutions at Motorola Solutions. “This virtual partner for public safety delivers street-ready data that matters most, to the people who need it most — our first responders. They are always at the forefront of our minds, and they inspire our most advanced thinking.”

The LEX 700 offers multiple voice communication options, from basic telephone calls, to joining a Project 25 radio talk group via a broadband PTT (push-to-talk) application. In fact, the latter option is supported by a dedicated PTT button, dual microphones and advanced noise cancelling capabilities, ensuring responders’ voices are audible in nearly any situation.
