Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 - 2014 Edition Improves on Original in Many Ways

It may be that the desire for small tablets is huge right now — thanks largely to low-priced, high-quality offerings like the Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire line — but that clearly isn’t stopping Samsung from making a play for the 10-inch section of the market that Apple currently dominates. In fact, the Korean manufacturer is gearing up to release the latest iteration of the Galaxy Note 10.1, with pre-orders starting as early as Sept. 27.

Dubbed the Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition, Samsung says this tablet offers “industry-leading specifications packed in a thin and lightweight form factor.” Indeed, the device boasts a Super Clear LCD display with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, an Exynos 5420 quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM, putting it squarely in the high-end category.

Of course, being a Note product, the tablet comes standard with Samsung’s S Pen stylus, along with a slew of software features in support of it. Air Command, for example, offers instant access to S Pen features, while Action Memo facilitates quick creation of notes, while also allowing that note to link to a direct action, such as searching the Internet.

"Last year's launch of the Galaxy Note 10.1 introduced the integration of S Pen capabilities to the tablet category and created a new experience for consumers," said Travis Merrill, vice president of tablet marketing at Samsung Electronics America. "We continue to evolve the Galaxy Note experience with the new Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition. With premium software features and a sophisticated design, we're delivering an exceptional and even more engaging tablet experience."

The first Galaxy Note 10.1 hit the market earlier this year and struck a chord with many simply because its S Pen is unique in the tablet space. The 2014 Edition builds upon the promise of the original with improved specs, S Pen capabilities and a new magazine-style interface called My Magazine meant to complement its high-resolution display.
