Nexus 5 Specs, Pricing Confirmed by Play Store Leak

Don’t look now, but Google accidentally gave away what little mystery remained surrounding the Nexus 5. I say ‘don’t look now’ because this leak came in the form of Google accidentally listing the Nexus 5 on the Play Store Thursday night for a short period of time. Taking a look at the Nexus devices there now will only show the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets, as well as the now-defunct Nexus 4.

Whether this leak was an actual accident or not is up for debate. The Nexus 5 has shown up so many times in the last couple of months — whether in the hands of a Google employee or a mysterious YouTube user eager to show the device off — it feels almost as though Google just wanted some control over the situation.

Regardless, for those interested in Google’s new smartphone standard for the coming year, the leak provided practically everything you’d want to know: looks, specs and even price.

Starting with looks, there’s little by way of surprise since this has been the most often leaked aspect of the Nexus 5, but it’s nice to have confirmation. Unlike the Nexus 4’s glass back, the Nexus 5 features a soft, matte finish that should offer improved durability. Otherwise, there’s not much to say; the bezels are small and LG’s logo appears on the back.

In terms of specs, it’s now confirmed that the Nexus 5 features a 1080p, 4.95-inch display, a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, LTE capability and options of 16 or 32GB of internal storage. Finally, in terms of pricing, we now know that the 16GB model will sell for $349 outright.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this leak, though, is that it gives us a glimpse of Android 4.4 KitKat. It seems the latest version of Android will offer a cleaner interface, for one thing, while the Google Hangouts icon being where the SMS one would normally be confirms that Hangouts SMS integration will indeed be unveiled alongside the Nexus 5 later this month.
