NXP Incorporates LifeVibes VoiceExperience Software in Samsung Device

The quality of a microphone on mobile devices and the software used to enhance the users speech greatly determines how well people are able to communicate. Telecom operators have strict standards to ensure vendors meet their voice quality compliance when it comes to this portion of the technology. AT&T has announced it is incorporating LifeVibes VoiceExperience from NXP Software, provider of mobile voice and multimedia software, in the Samsung ATIV S Neo to enhance the voice quality of the phone.

Because AT&T has very strict requirements regarding 2-microphone noise suppression, the choice of the LifeVibes VoiceExperience will be able to meet the standards it sets for speech quality. The solution NXP Software provides is used and is available on most mobile hardware platforms including CEVA, Intel, Qualcomm, Tensilica and Samsung Exynos.

The Samsung ATIV S Neo from AT&T operates on the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8930 and runs VoiceExperience on Hexagon DSP in order to meet the telecom's echo cancellation and 2-microphone noise suppression.

The VoiceExperience solution allows mobile devices to provide a clear and natural voice calling so manufacturers can deliver superior voice quality that meets all mobile operator requirements. Because it is platform-independent, the full software solution can be deployed with faster-time-to-market with measurable superior quality and a global support system. The technology is currently deployed in close to 1 billion devices.

The new and improved LifeVibes VoiceExperience 4.0.key features include:

  • GSMA HD voice compliance and clear natural calling
  • Supports CS, VoIP and VoLTE calls
  • Same voice quality regardless of hardware platform
  • Market-proven solution
  • Enhances both the incoming (Rx) and the outgoing (Tx) speech signals
  • Pre-integrated on leading Android platforms
  • Consistent voice call quality across different vendors’ hardware platforms such as baseband modems, application processors, SoCs and audio codecs

The voice enhancements the software delivers provides mobile devices communications over phone networks and IP-based channels such as Skype and Google Talk. Users are able to understand each other with more clarity because VoiceExperience improves speech intelligibility, eliminates echo and distortion, and minimizes stationary and non-stationary background noise such as crowds and traffic. The engine used by the software is HD Voice compatible and it is used for voice calls, video telephony and VoIP.
