Tech Data Completes Its Stake in TDMobility

Every business is constantly looking to expand its presence with respect to its operations, customer base, revenue and target markets. While some amount of this expansion is driven internally, a good part of it occurs through mergers, acquisitions and joint venture partnerships. This is partly because when one company expands, it might need the expertise of an ancillary company and this is best obtained through one of the above strategies.

 Out of the three choices, joint venture is the most preferred because it reduces risk for both the parties. This is why more than 5,000 joint ventures were completed during the last five years, with the top 100 joint ventures alone contributing to more than $350 billion in revenues. One such company that is looking to strategically expand its business is Tech Data, a wholesale distributor of technology products and solutions. It had entered into a JV with Brightstar to get a fifty percent stake in TDMobility in 2011. Recently, Tech data bought out Brightstar's stake in TDMoility as well, making Tech data the sole owner of TDMobility now.

 By doing so, Tech data aims to better scale its mobility offerings to its clients. TDMobility offers cutting-edge mobile products and activation services with its two flagship products being CellManage and TDActivate. CellManage, as the name implies, makes it easy to streamline the wireless infrastructure usage of customers by offering them consolidated quarterly or monthly billing, irrespective of the number of carriers used by the company. TDActivate, on the other hand, assists with deployment and procurement of different mobile devices.

 Earlier this year, Tech Data launched TDMobility University, a training portal for its program members. This portal has many applications, online videos and resources that will help members to set-up their own mobility business.

 With this buyout, Tech Data is looking to merge its products with TDMobility's platform, thereby offering clients with a superior mobile platform that will save time and money.
