Voxofon Announces Upgrade to Blackberry 10 Application

Voxofon is already a well-established company when it comes to providing over-the-top (OTT) voice and messaging service. Last week, the company announced that it has released enhancements to its Blackberry 10 platform, including a UI overhaul that will make it that much easier for Blackberry users to access. The Voxofon BB10 edition 4.0 offers a number of different services including free app-to-app calls and texts.

Voxofon announced that this particular update is specifically aimed at the Blackberry Q10 and the Q5 handsets and is available in the Blackberry World app store right now.   Voxofon has said that it wants to offer a true cross platform approach to its OTT service and that means that the app-to-app support is valid even if someone is using a Blackberry device and is trying to contact someone using an iPad.

The applications can be used for international and domestic calling and messaging on really any kind of connected device. The service is also available in a number of different languages. Voxofon has been careful to point out that they still find Blackberry support to be an integral part of their business. The focus on the Blackberry Q10 and Q5 comes at the same time that other companies are running away from the Canadian firm as fast as possible.

"When we launched Voxofon for BlackBerry 10 this summer, the feedback was very positive and we want BlackBerry's users to know that we consider them to be an important part of the Voxofon community," Julia Goloshubina, Vice President of Products for Voxofon said in a recent statement. "Beyond optimizing the user interface for BlackBerry Q10 and Q5 devices, this enhancement adds support for Voice over IP calling over Wi-Fi and enables free app-to-app calling through the BB10 app."

The best part about the Voxofone applications is that the person you are sending messages to, doesn’t have to own a smartphone. The messaging application sends the texts using SMS, so even the more basic cellphones will be able to get the messages.
