iPhone 5s, 5c Top Sales Charts Across Carriers

Now that Apple has more iPhone models available at all four major U.S. carriers, it has managed to dominate the smartphone market across the board.

Analysis from from Canaccord Genuity found that the iPhone 5s in particular outsold all smartphone rivals at AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile in November. The lower-priced iPhone 5c remained the third best-selling smartphone at all four carriers during the month, overshadowed only by Samsung’s Galaxy S4.

Apple continues to be the top smartphone manufacturer in the U.S. market, followed by Samsung.

"Our U.S. and global handset surveys indicated strong ongoing sales of the iPhone 5s and solid sales of the Samsung's Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 smartphones at all four tier-1 U.S. carriers and also in several international markets," Michael Walkley of Canaccord Genuity told Forbes. "Our global surveys indicated seasonally softer sales of low/mid-tier Android smartphones from Chinese OEMs in China following strong sales into the first week of the October holiday season. In addition, our surveys indicated steady global sales of Samsung's mid/low-tier smartphones backed by Samsung's aggressive promotions and pricing."

The iPhone 5s has seen two to three times faster adoption than previous incarnations of the device, so it isn’t a surprise that it has managed to pull rank.

What is peculiar is that despite multiple reports claiming iPhone 5c sales aren’t up to Apple’s expectations, the device still figures in the top three smartphones in the U.S.

The 5c launched with an exceptionally low price tag for an iOS device, so much that we expected it to ramp up sales in Apple’s favor. However, recent reports point to Apple downsizing its production of the “cheaper” and “plastic” device.

According to a report from Taiwan-based DigiTimes, which has been only slightly correct in the past, “industry sources” say Foxconn’s massive factory in Zhengzhou will no longer manufacture the iPhone 5c, and instead focus on Apple’s more popular iPhone 5s.

MacRumors notes that the iPhone 5s retains a significant lead over the iPhone 5c, even in countries like China, a market that many early commentators believed the iPhone 5c was designed for.

The iPhone 5c was originally expected to be Apple’s “budget iPhone” offering, to appeal to those markets that couldn’t readily afford Apple’s popular smartphone with a colorful new style.
