Voxofon Offers Credit-Earning System for More Free Calls

Remember the “teacher’s pet” from grade school? There was always that one kid who raised her hand for every question, shushed chatty classmates during reading time, and turned in every project early for extra credit. But now, extra credit is available through an app from developer Voxofon, which allows for free calls and texts across the globe – and you don’t have to be a straight-A student to earn it.

Voxofon, the Houston-based provider of over-the-top (OTT) voice and messaging services, has updated its iOS app to version 5.3. The hallmark of the new installment is its inclusion of a credit-earning system, in which users can rack up enough credit to make more free calls. Voxofon had previously allowed free calls only between app users, but with the new system, enough credit allows for free calls to any phone, including landlines, feature phones, or smartphones without the Voxofon app. Users gain free-call credits by trying new apps, taking surveys, watching videos, playing games, or simply viewing ads; Voxofon has recently formed numerous new brand partnerships, and is enticing its users to interact with those brands by offering credit upon completion. Each action offers between two and 2,000 credits, and there is no limit to the amount of credit users can earn.

The update is in part a response to users who requested more free communication options, not simply between app users. Alexey Goloshubin, CEO of Voxofon, said in a statement, “Most so-called 'free' communications apps only work between smartphone users, but many of our customers talk and text with friends and family who use landlines and feature phones…We are very excited about providing a simple and fun way for our customers to earn free credits so they can stay connected globally at no cost."

The new app version, in addition to call credits, includes learning screens for new users and general features updates. And for all the teacher’s pets out there, no need to raise your hand and wait to be called on – the app is already available for free through the iOS App Store, and is slated for release on Google Play by year’s end.
