BlackBerry Messaging to Be Pre-Installed on LG Phones

If you look back to the beginnings of time, to eras far preceding our modern day, you will find that mobile communication methods have evolved from primitive savagery to sleek beauty. (Okay, maybe you don’t have to look that far back…) It’s true that as cell phones have changed and been updated, so too have their features. Now, however, the mobile brand BlackBerry has announced something of a throwback: its BlackBerry Messaging (BBM) service will now come pre-installed on smartphones from LG Electronics, Inc.

BlackBerry, based in Ontario, has shifted its focus away from its once-popular hardware and is now zeroing in on expanding its features. BBM was released for iPhone and Android this past October, in what has been deemed BlackBerry’s last-ditch attempt to hang onto its slim market share. The app has enjoyed a measure of success on its new platform, and now BlackBerry is reaching out to the mobile market one more time by pre-installing BBM on LG smartphones. The Android-based G Pro Lite will be the first phone to offer BBM straight out of the box.

The move marks a notable effort by BlackBerry to bring their well-liked software back to the forefront of the company’s services. BBM for smartphones is not only going to be a messaging service, but promises upgrades including BBM Voice and video calling. BBM Channels, a new social media platform, is expected to make an appearance on iPhone and Android platforms soon as well.

The times have changed for mobile communication, but BBM may be poised to make something of a comeback for BlackBerry as cell phones continue to evolve.
