Panasonic Set to Debut the Toughpad 4K Performance Model at CES 2014

Today, Panasonic Corporation of North America is set to debut its Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 tablet at CES 2014, a global consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow that takes place every January in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year, the event takes place from January 7–10.

The Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 tablet is a high-powered performance version of the standard model. It is a large, yet lightweight 20-inch tablet PC, offering a high-quality display and the high-performance processor that users nowadays require, says Kyp Walls, director of product management, Panasonic System Communications Company of North America. According to Walls, such a tablet “is built to serve as an ideal mobile workstation for professionals in visual-intensive fields such as computer-aided design (CAD) and video editing.” It is also beneficial for non-linear editing for handling architectural plans.

Like the standard model, the Toughpad 4K performance model is also “a business-rugged tablet” with a brilliant 230 pixel-per-inch display that goes beyond Ultra HD resolution with its 4K technology solution. The display provides a lifelike viewing experience (with 16.8 million colors) unlike any tablet on the market, says Joe Taylor, chairman and CEO of Panasonic North America.

Both the standard and performance models can be used as both a desktop PC and tablet. And each support Panasonic’s Electronic Touch Pen; this is a type of integrated stylus that uses infrared position detection via a human interface device (HID) driver on multi-touch touch screens for input (it offers 10-point multi-touch input) and control; it communicates with the tablet via Bluetooth. The optical pen is apt to navigate, draw, take notes and interact with touch screen devices.

Taylor explains the new tablet personal computer, the UT-MA6, expands the capabilities of the 'Toughpad 4K UT-MB5'—this is the company’s tablet announced in 2013— and offers USB 3.0 x3, Ethernet and HDMI-output connectivity. This, ultimately, improves productivity, creativity and efficiency in a number of areas, Walls mentioned.

Key Features of the Toughpad 4K UT-MA6, include:

  • High-Power CPU: Intel Core i7-3687U vPro processor - 2.1GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz

The Panasonic Toughpad 4K tablets offer clarity for detailed images and video and each have their own unique hardware and OS-based system with enhanced security features (i.e., have built-in Smart Card reader, Security Cable Loop).

Today, consumers will have a chance to have a sneak peak at the Toughpad 4K UT-MA6, which will be showcased as part of Panasonic’s full line of solutions for business; the line includes digital and other electronics products and services for consumer, business and industrial use. Not only will Panasonic introduce its new tablet personal computer, the UT-MA6, but it will also talk about a slew of new products too, says Joe Taylor, chairman and CEO of Panasonic North America.
