Mobile Rivalry Heats Up: T-Mobile Will Pay Early Termination Fees, Ad States

It seems the mobile carrier space has been filled with rivalries and jabs between the major mobile companies as of late. Take for example Sprint’s recent announcement of the “Framily Plan,” in order to reel in groups of friends to join a plan for cheaper prices than if they had individual plans with another carrier. Choosing a mobile phone service can be quite daunting, and finding the best deal is a chore – so it is no wonder major carriers such as Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile are battling it out to receive the top spot. T-Mobile apparently wants in on the action with their offer to pay off your entire family’s sum of early termination fees if you switch to their service – a bold sentiment indeed.

Yesterday T-Mobile announced that it will pay an entire family’s early termination fees (that they would otherwise have to pay to cancel a service early) in order to switch to a T-Mobile plan. This ad, included below, was spotted on various tech sites, and it may seem like an act of desperation to fight against Sprint’s “Framily Plan” or AT&T’s offer of $450 per line to switch from T-Mobile to AT&T.

Ouch! So many digs, so little time. Didn’t AT&T want to purchase the entire T-Mobile franchise at one point? It seems they have changed their tune, and T-Mobile isn’t willing to go down without a fight. Their offer sounds too good to be true, and could it be just that? Apparently you must buy a new phone altogether if you do indeed make the switch – for most phones do not work on a rival company’s network. It seems as if T-Mobile (not being the most popular network as it is) may need to work a little more magic than that, and it will all be made clear through T-Mobile CEO John Legere’s keynote speech at CES later today.
