You could call 911 or defend yourself, depending on circumstances. Traditional stun guns are bulky, whereas the Yellow Jacket stays on the phone. You can fit the Yellow Jacket anywhere you fit a phone, whereas concealed handgun permit owners face limits. The device only needs to be recharged, so there’s no recurring cost of bullets or maintenance kits. And if you make a mistake, the Yellow Jacket is a non-lethal weapon.

The Legality of the Yellow Jacket 

The Yellow Jacket is legal even in areas where concealed carry weapons are not allowed. You do not have to be 21 to own a Yellow Jacket. There is no permit from the police department or registration of the weapon in a database. While the manufacturer suggests customers take self-defense training, little training is required to use the stun gun. Yellow Jacket did build in a safety switch and safety cap to prevent accidental self-shock. 

Additional Benefits of the Yellow Jacket

While the Yellow Jacket is primarily a personal protection device, that’s not all it can do. It charges up to 24 hours of power for your smart phone in an emergency. So it could save your life if you are stuck far from civilization while you try to navigate via GPS. Or you could continually call 911 until you reach an area with cell phone coverage. The stun gun is still usable in these circumstances, since it pulls from a separate battery. 

Yellow Jacket’s Release 

The Yellow Jacket is already available for the iPhone 4. Yellow Jacket showed off its iPhone 5 at the International CES, and it will be on the market in spring of 2014. Yellow Jacket stun gun cases for the Samsung S4 will become available in the summer of 2014.
