Tellabs Introduces Router Portfolio for LTE-advanced Networks

Looking to get a jump on the emerging LTE Advanced marketplace, Tellabs announced a new edge router portfolio targeted for communications service providers.

The company’s Mobile Backhaul Solutions portfolio reportedly supports Coriant’s multilayer SND solutions for mobile networks. Both Tellabs and Coraint are owned by Marlin Equity Partners, and the synergy indicates that the investment group is moving forward with plans to merge the two companies after buying Tellabs in late 2013.

“Customer-first values represent one of the core principles of all our operating companies,” said Bob Leggett, an operating partner at Marlin, at the time of the acquisition. “The addition of Tellabs to the Marlin telecom portfolio provides the immediate opportunity to bring enhanced value by leveraging the complementary products and solutions of our other portfolio companies, in particular Coriant, an industry leader in coherent optical transmission technologies for long-haul networks.”

Marlin indicated it plans to merge the two companies soon after the acquisition of Tellabs. “Through cross-selling agreements and targeted collaboration in multiple areas of the business, we will ensure that we retain the focus required to ensure optimal customer success and satisfaction,” Leggett said.

Tellabs solutions were developed to support data services, low-latency voice and applications that include consumer, enterprise, machine-to-machine connectivity, cloud networking and more, according to the company.

New products include the Tellabs 8665 Smart Router, a high-scale node for Tellabs Smart Routers managed by the Tellabs 8000 Intelligent Network Manager. According to the company, its IP routing and Ethernet switching capabilities, aligned with other Tellabs 8600 Smart Routers, support mobile operators as they build and scale LTE and LTE-Advanced networks.

The Tellabs 8665 Smart Router is a 900 Gbps full duplex IP/MPLS router for pure packet networks providing Ethernet interfaces from 1 to 100 Gbps.

The company also introduced the Tellabs 8615 Smart Router for mobile and fixed-mobile converged networks, and the Tellabs 8602 Smart Router for demanding locations that require a compact design and protection from environmental factors.

Other updates to the company’s product line include the Tellabs Integrated GPS (GNSS) SFP Module for packet synchronization as well as an updated interface for Tellabs Insight AnalyticsSM Services that reveals network design flaws and risks not otherwise visible to operators, reducing reporting and analysis time.
