Wireless Charging Just Got Easier

Wireless industry has seen an explosive growth during the last few years and this has resulted in the availability of many devices by different manufacturers. Most people today have a cellphone or a tablet or a laptop and this is just the beginning. More and more connected devices are being developed and this is good news for the wireless industry.

A related industry that has also seen high levels of growth is the wireless charging industry. However, this industry is fragmented with intense rivalry; therefore this industry has not been able to ride the wireless way effectively. To change this situation and to prepare for a connected world, two big players in this industry, namely, the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) and the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) have come together to make their standards work together. With this new agreement, users can charge their device from any charging station and this flexibility has been welcomed by many companies who manufacture wireless devices. For example, Nokia and LG Electronics have decided to implement this integrated feature into some of their models.

Despite this partnership, a lot more needs to be done in this area. This is because most phones today used a standard called Qi that is developed and managed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). To truly integrate all the wireless charging standards, it is vital that this group also joins the partnership. As of now, there has been no steps in this regard though a spokesperson of WPC commented that the above partnership is the first step towards the consolidation of wireless charging industry.

It is hoped that WPC too joins the team to make wireless charging truly universal for users and wireless device manufacturers. Such a partnership can be a big boost for the wireless industry as a whole.
