PCTEL's New In-building Scanning Receiver Turns Heads at Mobile World Congress

PCTEL is already in the business of making simple solutions to wireless problems in private and public networks, but their newest product seems to take the cake in both effectiveness and convenience. At the 2014 Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain, PCTEL unveiled the SeeGull IBflex scanning receiver as well as their intentions to launch the product shortly. The IBflex scanning receiver is designed to make the setup and testing of in-building wireless networks both fast and efficient, performing a unified wireless network scan for Wi-Fi, cellular technology and other bands in a single walk-through of the building.

The device is already earning a considerable level of interest from those at the conference because it combines several different network tests into a single platform. An easy-to-use interface and a unique “hot swap battery system” means that the tests can take place over very short periods of time, with fewer interruptions and greater control. PCTEL recognizes that a majority of wireless device usage is done indoors, which makes working in-building wireless networks very important to all businesses.

The scanning software is also upgradable directly from the field, supporting cellular bands including LTE FDD, TD-LTE, WCDMA, EV-DO, GSM and several others. Dual-port scanners located on the device prepare the device for multiple input and output options needed for advanced LTE optimization.

The device scans for almost all used spectrums of Wi-Fi and cellular data, supporting cellular bands ranging from 570 MHz to almost 4 GHz. The WiFi support reaches bands ranging from 2.4 GHz and 5GHz.

Companies like Ascom Network Testing are eager to get their hands on PCTEL’s new scanner as well. "Ascom is pleased to highlight the SeeGull IBflex as an important option within the TEMS™ line of product solutions," said Rikard Lundqvist, the CEO of Ascom Network Testing. According to him, the IBflex scanning receiver is a perfect solution for network testing, stating that "As leaders in the testing field, we understand that indoor environments present unique challenges for network coverage and capacity, which need to be addressed with a solution geared towards their specific requirements. The combination of TEMS and the IBflex will make it easier for our customers to overcome those issues, and provide a superior network experience.”
