40Gbps DPI Function Targets Video and Voice Over LTE

As video and voice traffic ramp up on LTE networks, the ability to guarantee the delivery (and therefore Quality of Experience) for these real-time services amid network congestion will become a real differentiator for operators. Napatech is teaming with ipoque to address the issue with a 40Gbps deep packet inspection (DPI) solution. It’s aimed at providing instant application insight into 4G networks.

"Application performance is a key differentiator for mobile networks and embedded DPI solutions have an increasingly important role to play in application QoE and service assurance,” said Dirk Czepluch, president and CTO at ipoque.

Napatech and ipoque will combine products to support real-time network processing with application recognition software up to Layer 7 (e.g. Skype, Facebook, YouTube and so on). Napatech accelerators provide collection and delivery of network analysis data with what it says is zero packet loss. Each packet is time-stamped within a nanosecond, allowing precise identification of events and measurement of time-related QoE parameters, such as latency and jitter. ipoque's PACE DPI software meanwhile classifies applications to Layer 7 as well as audio and video, and calculates key performance indicators for deeper insight.

The result is information analysis that can be applied to traffic steering of time-sensitive VoLTE  and video apps. It can thus be used to enhance QoE and provide analytics on mobile video and voice using key performance indicators in real time, such as jitter, call completion statistics, packet loss, call duration and so on.

"We are pleased to debut our first demo with ipoque, one of the world's leading DPI vendors, in order to assist network equipment vendors provide better QoE for their customers,” said Henrik Brill Jensen, CEO at Napatech. “This solution is another example of our commitment to keep our customers one step ahead of the data growth curve while reducing time-to-market and risk."
