Smith Micro and Sprint Announce Avatar Design Contest

The next generation digital artists have a season to look forward to. Smith Micro Software has partnered with Sprint to offer a new education program and contest designed for the digital artists. All this is being done to enable Sprint to add new Avatars to its visual voicemail service. These Avatars will be provided by Smith Micro.

Targeted to educators and students in secondary schools and higher education, this contest allows contestants to use Smith Micro’s animation software to come up with different innovative and interesting avatars. The winning entries will be watched and used by a sizeable population of Sprint visual voicemail users.

To participate in this contest, students from any accredited secondary school, college or trade school can register for free copies of Smith Micro’s award-winning Anime Studio animation software. To help teachers to incorporate this animation software into their syllabus, Smith Micro is offering video tutorials and sample teaching guides to the classes.

While the students have a chance to fame, teachers will also gain from this program. Eligible teachers will receive one free license to download Anime Studio Pro 10 for their own use. They can also purchase the Anime Studio Curriculum Guide at a discount.

“We have a worldwide community of digital artists using our top-tier animation products, including designers for Disney, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Rooster Teeth, and major retail brands,” said William W. Smith, Jr., CEO at Smith Micro.  “By learning to use Anime Studio, students will quickly find that marrying art and technology can be very rewarding, and the Sprint avatar feature provides an amazing, nationwide platform to showcase their designs.  Everybody wins with this program.”

Smith Micro is doing all it can to make technology more fun. Recently, the company unveiled its AniMates mobile messaging app on iTunes. This provides animated characters, colorful backgrounds and much more to iPhone users to express themselves.
