Consumers are very much aware about the battle going on between Apple and Samsung as well as other smartphone and tablet manufacturers, but very few people know about industrial grade smart mobile devices. Smartphones and tablets have introduced a level of efficiency in our private and work life that can't be imagined by previous technologies. Industries in rugged environments have also implemented this technology into their workforce, but because of the harsh environments in which they work in, they need a ruggedized version of what we use every day. Janam Technologies LLC, provider of rugged mobile computers that scan barcodes and communicate wirelessly, has released its latest mini-tablet called the XT1, with more features, better performance and rugged enough to withstand many environments.
According to Janam, the XT1 is the industry's lightest and most powerful rugged mini-tablet delivering a game changing performance to the mobile workforce.
The new mini-tablet is the company's first device to support the Android operating system. This will allow it to meet the demands and requirements of enterprise and government customers looking for a device that provides rugged qualities while at the same time delivering a platform that can access readily available applications.
The unit is integrated with the 2D barcode scanning technology, which is more efficient than solutions that rely on existing cameras on smartphones or external bulky sled attachments. Employees working in the field in manufacturing, field services, retail markets, healthcare and other industries can deploy the XT1.
The tablet is a 4G-ready UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA/GSM wireless wide area network communication device equipped with 802.11a/b/g/n dual-band WLAN for accessing data within the organization’s four walls or outside.
The device is certified for use in hazardous environments, designed to withstand multiple 3 foot or 1 meter drops to concrete and sealed to IP54 standards. The characteristics of IP54 enclosures include protection from dirt, dust, oil, splashing water and other non-corrosive material.
Some of the specifications of the XT1 include:
- TI OMAP4470 at 1.5GHz
- 5.9 inch WVGA TFT capacitive touch screen
- Embedded RFID and NFC capabilities
- Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE)
- High sensitivity GPS and Assisted GPS
- Motion sensing accelerometer
- Front/rear cameras
- 3000mAh rechargeable Li-Ion battery
“Many enterprise customers require more screen viewability than traditional PDAs or handheld computers offer, yet full display rugged tablets are large, thick, heavy and unwieldy,” said Harry B. Lerner, CEO of Janam. “Janam resolves this dilemma. The XT1 blends cutting-edge technologies most often found in consumer phones with mission-critical key features that enterprises need such as ruggedness, sealing, barcode scanning and rapid battery recharging, among others. The result is a sleek, lightweight, rugged mini-tablet that delivers superior performance without sacrificing usability.”
