The Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID), a not-for-profit corporation in the New York borough of the Bronx providing supplementary services to the community, recently launched a native app to communicate with its audiences and enhance business for retailers in the area. Launched just in time for the holidays, the app is the first of its kind to be developed by any BID in the city.
Called "Fordham Road Shopping & Events," the app offers attractive discounts and promotions for stores and restaurants in the area as well as useful tools such as a directory for the shopping district and updates on community events. Users can share information on the app socially, download multimedia content and receive alerts related to emergencies or traffic issues. The Fordham Road BID is comprised of nearly 300 national chains and mom-and-pop shops.
"Walking down Fordham Road, you can't help but notice that almost everyone is holding a mobile device," explained Wilma Alonso, Executive Director of the Fordham Road Business Improvement District. "In an effort to better communicate with the many constituents that are part of our district, and also wanting to support our retailers during this holiday season, we felt that it was important to have an app to be able to push out important information to everyone through their mobile devices."
