Ericsson Launches Router 6000 Series with an Eye on LTE Advanced, 5G and M2M

Ericsson, a global provider of communications technology and services, has announced the launch of the Router 6000 series in anticipation of a migration towards next-gen technologies like LTE Advanced, 5G and M2M. The product addresses concerns regarding end-to-end network security and the demand for higher operational efficiency, offering user-defined policy routing and faster roll-outs of revenue-generating services, while optimizing network resource usage.

The new backhaul routers with segment routing support primarily enable an evolution from IP/MPLS to SDN. The Router 6000 series consists of the Router 6672 for access, the Router 6675 for pre-aggregation and the Router 6274 for metro aggregation. Ericsson’s radio integrated IP transport - when coupled with SDN functionality and the Ericsson Network Manager - enables application-aware traffic engineering with plug-and-play installation. In response to the necessity of higher-capacity and -density 10GE/100GE interfaces, the product is the first 1 Rack Unit (RU) access router in the industry with a 100GE interface.

“The Ericsson Router 6000 series is a game changer since it responds directly to operators' challenges of dramatic increase in the number of connected devices, and the video explosion driving the demand for traffic scale and higher quality of experience,” said Anders Lindblad, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Unit Cloud and IP at Ericsson. “The combination of the new Ericsson Radio System, integrated backhaul, leadership in mobile core and our global footprint of service professionals makes Ericsson best positioned to lead operators’ network transformation in the Networked Society.”

The Router 6000 series is a key component of Ericsson’s portfolio of next-gen platforms, which run on a single network operating system that spans from cell-site routers to edge, mobile core and data centers. This portfolio can be deployed with the new Ericsson Virtual Router to introduce distributed cloud applications. The new product is also fully integrated into the Ericsson Radio System, which supports a multi-standard, multi-band, multi-layer architecture to provide operators with a highly capable, flexible platform.

The Ericsson Router 6000 series is now available alongside the Ericsson Virtual Router, Ericsson Network Manager and Ericsson Radio System.
